Apple wants to increase production of new iPhones

Cupertino requires a 20% greater commitment than usual from its suppliers for the new model to be announced ina> September

Photo: Eric Thayer / Getty Images An increase of up to 20% in production of the new iPhone, which will be announced in September: Apple would ask its suppliers to assemble up to 90 million new generation phones this year. The goal is higher than the 75 million devices usually produced at the usual launch last quarter, according to rumors gathered by Bloomberg. However, already in the period October-December 2020, Apple achieved record turnover, grossing 21.31 billion dollars in China, mainly thanks to the iPhone 12, almost a third of the 65.6 billion dollars of revenues obtained by the iPhone (100 billion l 'total revenue in three months), producing 90.1 million mobile phones, a number never reached before by a single vendor in three months, according to Idc.

If the model launched in 2020 was the first to be able to connect to 5G, the new iPhone will have further incremental updates, able to emphasize the performance of the processor, camera and display. Meanwhile, the actions of some players in the production chain, given a gradual recovery, have already risen. Starting with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (+ 1.3%), the largest semiconductor chip manufacturer in the world (54% of production), whose main customer is Apple (25% of orders). Also the Italian manufacturers of batteries and power supplies Cheng Uei Precision Industry (+ 9%) and Largan Precision lenses (+ 2.4%), as well as the Japanese Alps Alpine (+ 3.5%), for components, were also positive.

Apple is planning updates for all current regular 5.4 and 6.1-inch versions, such as 6.1 and 6.7-inch "pro" versions that will be assembled by Chinese Luxshare, and Taiwanese Hon Hai (Foxconn) and Pegatron. The main technical innovations include Ltpo (low-temperature polucrystalline oxide) screens, an evolution of OLEDs already present on the flagship models of Samsung, Oppo and OnePlus, capable of reducing the display update frequency and therefore the consumption of the device. The screens will also use Igzo-based technology (indium gallium zinc oxide) to improve energy efficiency and responsive performance. Other changes will include the reduced size of the front camera and the unlock sensor with facial recognition, advanced video recording features, an improved optical zoom and improved integrated circuit systems.
