The Radeon RX 7000 will support DisplayPort 2.1 (which does not exist yet)

The launch of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4090 officially ushered us into the next generation of GPUs, but this is obviously just the beginning. Approaching more and more towards November, in addition to the RTX 4080, AMD's Radeon RX 7000, based on the new Navi 31 architecture, will also be waiting for us. The expectations on the new video cards are quite important: in a similar way to what happened with the RTX 40, a big increase in performance is expected from the current series, even if according to some these cards will not be at the level of the competition, as well as support for new standards yet to be announced. In fact, unlike the new GeForce, the Radeon RX 7000 should support DisplayPort 2.1.

The news comes from insider Kyle Bennett, who shared a source that AMD's new generation of video cards could be the first to equip themselves with the latest version of the standard. The DisplayPort 2.1, however, is currently in a sort of "limbo", as it has not yet been effectively confirmed by VESA, although online cables can already be found "certified" for the new standard. The specifications are clearly still unknown, but based on the rumors circulated so far, version 2.1 should support a maximum bandwidth of 80Gbps, as well as give the possibility to connect a monitor with a resolution of 16K at 60Hz, or two 4K at 144Hz or three. 4K at 90Hz.

Verification from multiple sources that @Radeon Navi 31 will support upcoming DisplayPort 2.1 specification. I am tremendously surprised that @NVIDIAGeForce 4090 only supports DP 1.4a. Props to @LinusTech for calling out the DP1.4 / 4090 shortcomings!

Apparently not think so AMD, which probably wants to expand the audience of its RX 7000 also to professionals. Obviously, to know if the future Radeon RX 7000 will really support DisplayPort 2.1 we will have to wait for the official announcement.
