Google Pixel 7 vs Google Pixel 7 Pro

After trying the newcomers of the Pixel family for a few days, here is a comparison between Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro. As in the previous generation, the new models also share the same price spacing (649 euros against 899 euros) with a difference of 250 euros in practice in the respective basic configurations with 128GB of user memory.
Will this difference be evident in practice? Will the major hardware implementations present on the Pro variant be able to justify the higher outlay, or will the quality / price ratio of the basic model be difficult to beat again this year?

Design and construction

The Pixel 7 family inherits the design lines seen on the previous Pixel 6 family, with the rear area of both models able to attract the larger interest. In fact, the famous camera bar (containing all the main photographic sensors) maintains its role as a distinctive element, while gaining greater care and style with new materials.

Especially for Pixel 7 we are faced with a visual rendering that, although not too dissimilar to the direct predecessor, is able to return sensations of a higher category than in the past. Two products therefore now on par in terms of aesthetics and materials, which differ in design only for two elements.

The display differences don't stop here

Only the Pixel 7 Pro model is in fact equipped with a display with LTPO technology, therefore able to extend its refresh rate value from 10Hz up to 120Hz (the Pixel 6 panel can only go up to 90Hz and 60Hz at minimum). The resolution is also different between the two models, with a higher figure also present in this case only on the variant with the increased price, even if both are considerably improved from the previous generation.

There is also a camera missing on Google Pixel 7

The count of Pixel 7's shortcomings against Pixel 7 Pro is also enriched with an element inherent in the photographic sector.

The rear photographic island in fact includes only two sensors as regards the basic proposal of the new Google portfolio, with the periscope zoom lens only to the advantage of the Pro model. The technical difference also extends to the software sector, with some limitations related to certain shooting modes that will not be available on Pixel 7 (due precisely to the lack of the additional lens or the lack of focus on the wide-angle camera for macro shots).

For both terminals, however, we find a photographic sector very similar to the previous generation and both have the two common cameras with similar characteristics. The main 50MP is the same. The wide-angle, 12MP on both telegos, on the Pro model has a greater field of view (FOV) and has the ability to change the focus in favor of close-range shots.

The difference between Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will therefore not be to be found in the quality in the strict sense, but in the greater shooting versatility guaranteed by a more varied setup on the variant with higher cost.

Android 13 and the same update policy / future support

No difference regarding the Android version on board these two terminals. For both, in fact, Android version 13, with all the customization options typical of the now famous and acclaimed Pixel Experience.

The path of updates and support is also identical future, which will see up to five years of care from the company: 3 years of OS updates and 5 years of security patches are the minimum guaranteed support time.
