LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga | PC version review

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga | PC version review

The videogame saga, created by TT Games, dedicated to LEGO now counts an impressive number of iterations which, starting from the iconic LEGO Star Wars of 2005, now has over 30 titles, ranging from licensed experiences (Pirates of the Caribbean , Marvel, Lord of the Rings, Rock Band ...) and originals (LEGO Battles, LEGO City Undercover ...).

A real colossus that, over the years, has collected more and more favorable opinions from audiences and critics, managing to generate substantial revenues thanks to the ability to win the hearts not only of children but also of many adults, thanks to an extreme attention to accessibility, an extreme fidelity to the reference material and an irony based on gags understandable to all.

Of all the video games produced by TT Games and Warner Bros, however, the Star Wars saga has always been one of the most popular. It is therefore not surprising that following the cinematic conclusion of the Skywalker saga, and the news that TT Games will no longer have the exclusivity to produce video games dedicated to the famous bricks, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will make its debut (on each game platform) to metaphorically close a huge journey that began 17 years ago with a title dedicated to Star Wars.

As the title suggests, LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga includes stories and characters from from all 9 major films of the film saga. Therefore Rogue One, Solo or The Mandalorian are not included, even if the bonuses for those who have pre-ordered the game reveal potential additional contents in the pipeline.

A galaxy far and far away and… abnormal!

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga is, most likely, one of the greatest video games we've ever had to approach. TT Games wanted to overdo the content by creating a single gigantic package consisting of stories, characters and events from all nine films in the main saga. An immense work that has given life, to all intents and purposes, to the greatest LEGO title ever.

The game structure revolves all around the Galactic Map, which allows us to travel between the different planets of the films whenever we want (once unlocked, of course), allowing us to explore far and wide all the worlds visited previously during the main campaigns, to find the many secrets hidden within them, which can only be accessed with the right "class" of characters, which in this iteration reach the impressive number of 300 different ones that can be unlocked by progressing with the various play activities.

Each character class in LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga features mecca different game styles that allow you to solve certain environmental puzzles, so as to reach certain areas previously closed during the main story. The biggest difference, compared to the past, concerns the presence of classes (Jedi, Hero, Bounty Hunter, Droid, etc ...), each of which can be improved with the appropriate Kyber bricks (which in LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga are over 1000 scattered across the galaxy) to gain additional abilities. The Kyber bricks are obtained by overcoming challenges, missions, platform sections, explorations in deep space and environmental puzzles, the real focus of the game further embellished by the "Force", which we can use to move the objects in the settings and build structures suitable for open real passages made with colored bricks.

TT Games offered the opportunity to start from the first episode of each trilogy, allowing the player to choose whether to start their journey from "The Phantom Menace", "A New Hope" or "The Awakening of the Force", all for meet the tastes of each player and allow those who have already faced the LEGO versions of the first two trilogies in the past, to c start immediately from the most recent material.

Every salient moment of the nine films can be experienced firsthand within L EGO Star Wars The Saga of the Skywalker, just as every element present in the films of the saga is present at the inside the game, and it will be possible to use it or simply visit it. The new TT Games title has more than 100 vehicles made available to the player (as long as you unlock them first), as well as every single location, including those that appeared only for a few minutes in the films, will be freely explorable.

If being able to take a walk around Tatooine, walking through the desert paths populated by humans, rhodians and Jawas, were not enough to feed your hunger for habits and customs of the populations present in the Star Wars galaxy, know that in L EGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga also features a compendium for every single content in the game, from the main characters, through vehicles, to planets. A mammoth act of love for Star Wars fans, who will finally be able not only to relive the famous adventures of the Skywalkers in a complete, long-lived and damn fun experience, but will be able to delve into every aspect of that galaxy far, far away.

There is no shortage of iconic scenes

An adventure for the whole family

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga does not want to propose major changes in terms of gameplay, net of a renewed use of the Force and the introduction of classes, the more it wants to refine a formula perpetrated for over fifteen years, making it not only accessible but satisfactory for every age group. Undoubtedly, this is the most satisfying LEGO videogame, able to share the gaming experience equally by offering a variety and quality never seen before in a production of the franchise.

As for the gameplay, "pad to the hand ”, the only real flaw we encountered lies in the clashes with ranged weapons. Although they are undoubtedly improved compared to the past, they cannot in any way compete with the solidity of the combat system dedicated to melee attacks, much more layered and satisfying in its staging.

If in "free mode" this smudging is not particularly perceived, thanks to the possibility of creating a team without limits and which, therefore, mixes heroes, Jedi and Sith without distinction, during the main story it is more marked, by virtue of the impossibility of changing one's team for "reasons of plot ".

By virtue of all these aspects, LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga offers a truly versatile longevity ranging from the, approximately, 15 hours, required to complete the nine campaigns dedicated to the respective films, more than a hundred hours, needed to be able to obtain each collectible offered by the title.

The game is extremely varied

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga: The technical sector

Before devoting ourselves to the PC requirements, and how LEGO Star Wars The Saga of the Skywalker behaves, we want to lose ourselves in a small general analysis on what TTGames has achieved with its most ambitious project. The polygonal models of each character, and of each brick that composes it, is a concentration of attention to detail and meticulous reproduction of the real versions of the characters, available within the various LEGO sets.

Being able to notice not only the welds between the plastics that make up the models of the characters but, even, the scratches on their shiny surfaces that, as the adventure progresses, will accumulate at the end of each struggle or clash is undoubtedly impressive and clearly shows the extreme attention to the details answered by the developers.

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga also presents a constant contrast, made in an impeccable way, between the environments made with realistic models and the architecture, flora and fauna, all made of LEGO bricks.

It is in some ways impressive how some of the glimpses offered by LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga manage to be alive and more “next gen” than those offered by productions with greater graphic ambitions. The credit goes to TT Games which did not want to recycle anything, recreating the game worlds from scratch by totally rethinking the management of liquids, the lighting system and the management of special effects.

Wanting at all costs note some flaws in the technical realization of LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga, we can tell you that we have seen some interpenetration too many, some micro glitches in the characters that populate the various planets and some imperfections in the synchrony of some off-screen phrases in the exploration sections free . Nothing absolutely impactful for the purposes of the gaming experience and that is limited to snatching an extra smile in those very rare moments when a character seems to be discussing totally random topics in the middle of a battle.

All the original music of the Star Wars saga, as well as all the effects dedicated to weapons and means of transport, come from the films and have been painstakingly transposed to the delight of millions of fans of the saga of George Lucas. Unlike the previous productions dedicated to Danish bricks, LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga has been entirely dubbed in Italian, however offering the possibility of deactivating this function to leave the game with the typical grumbles that have always characterized the video game series created by TT Games

Although it is a LEGO game, graphically it is a pretty sight!
