Jonathan Hickman reveals the roots of his management of the X-Men

With Inferno # 4, the latest issue of the recent mutant event released this week in American comics, scriptwriter Jonathan Hickman's management of all the X-Men titles officially came to an end. The writer's abandonment of the direction of all the series has been given by the same in recent months, announcing not only his commitments for his newsletter on Substack but also that he is working on a new, great Marvel project. >
Hickman recently gave an interview to the Xplain podcast - the X-Men podcast to comment on his entire journey over the years on the X-Men, from the founding of the nation of Krakoa to the Inferno event. During the interview, the screenwriter also told where the roots of all of his recent work, which began with House of X / Powers of X and then continued with X-Men 1 - Pax Krakoa, available on Amazon, lie.

Regarding House Of X and Powers Of X, the idea came to me when I wrote a paper about everything that didn't work in the X-Men comics and what could be done to fix them. And I've kept asking to be able to work on it ever since I left, after closing Secret Wars. But I never thought I could really do it because I didn't think you'll ever be back in Marvel. I knew I wasn't going to DC because I was working for television, I wanted to work on some of my indie titles, but I felt I had a need that needed to be met, and in the end it happened. […] From when I presented the project to when House Of X and Powers Of X were released, few things have changed. They put a lot of emphasis on the climate of the story, whether it was darker or lighter, and how and if we had to use certain characters or not. Few details that weren't very important. Once we got into the writing office and this huge project came out, bigger than we expected, because it was a real sales success, with all those series published very quickly the story began to take shape and its world. it continued to evolve. It has become something very different from what I thought at the beginning, but I think it is thanks to the spirit of what it was, that is to say, to make a large set of titles, that it is a success.

At the time of "selling" the idea to the editors, he had to answer their questions about it in the course of several meetings, a phase of the work in which his strengths and weaknesses to work on are highlighted. Also recalling the presentation meetings of his projects on the Fantastic 4, on Avengers and Secret Wars (all Omnibuses published by Panini Comics and available on Amazon.it), Hickman recalled having met the amazement of bystanders, being wide-ranging works and that have been developing for several years on the pages of comics.

These days Marvel has presented the new course for the titles of the X-Men after the abandonment of Hickman, a story arc called Destiny of X and which will present the new X-Force, Marauders, Immortal X-Men, Legion of X and X-Men Red series
