Hogwarts Legacy, after 4 years of development is again at risk of being postponed

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy has been talked about since 2018, after the first videos that emerged online in an unofficial way. The game based on the Harry Potter franchise was then unveiled in 2020, during the PS5 showcase. Initially expected for 2021, it has been postponed to 2022 but from the latest rumors it seems that it will not be able to make it even this year.

As reported online, in fact, Hogwarts Legacy could now be scheduled for 2023. To reveal it is was the insider Colin Moriarty, in an episode of the podcast Sacred Symbols. "I've heard from some people that the title won't even be out this year," Moriarty said on the podcast. Unfortunately, the report ends here, without further details and reasons for this probable postponement. And the situation, now, is starting to take on decidedly strange contours, given the absence of news about it that has lasted for a very long time, perhaps too much considering the scope of the project.

Hogwarts Legacy would seem to be at the center of a real mystery. After the official announcement, in fact, we have not received any further news. Theoretically, the title should return to show itself this year and perhaps it will even be present at Sony's next State of Play (expected, according to some rumors, for February). Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and the development team have promised to return to show the game in 2022, but at this point it is not clear if we will get a gameplay trailer or the release date.

Hogwarts Legacy may suffer from performance issues due to its cross gen nature. Or the pandemic may have affected development more than previously thought. So many mysteries, which obviously we cannot reveal ourselves. It will therefore be necessary to wait for any official communications from Warner Bros. and Avalanche Software to find out the real state of the game, even if it is not said that we will receive updates soon.

New report suggests Hogwarts Legacy may have been delayed to 2023

…and 'it's in some sort of trouble'.

The Harry Potter-themed game Hogwarts Legacy has reportedly been delayed to 2023.

The news comes almost a year to the day after Warner Bros. Games delayed Hogwarts Legacy from 2021 to 2022, stating at the time that 'creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs'.

Sacred Symbol's podcast host Colin Moriarty reports 'hearing behind the scenes that [the] game isn't coming out this year' and 'it's in some sort of trouble'.

The host stops short of evidencing the claim and as you may well expect, there's no official word from Warner Bros. right now, but the rumour fuels existing speculation that the game is in trouble (thanks, Comic Book). Watch this space, I guess.

As Tom reported at the time, Hogwarts Legacy was officially announced last September during Sony's big PlayStation 5 showcase, after an early leak first appeared back in 2018 which Eurogamer rubber-stamped as the real deal.

An early trailer for the game revealed Hogwarts Legacy to be a third-person adventure set in and around the grounds of Hogwarts, with the action taking place back in the 1800s - long before Harry Potter or Newt Scamander was shaking a wand around.
