Taco Bell: the mecha-themed commercial with Evangelion, Pacific Rim and Gundam

Taco Bell

Taco Bell, the fast food chain belonging to the Yum! Brands, based in Irvine, California, which offers delicious Mexican foods and recently launched a new product, the Naked Chicken Taco, has decided to sponsor its Nacho Fries with a mecha commercial that recalls elements of Evangelion, Pacific Rim, Mobile Suit Gundam and Darling in the Franxx.

Taco Bell: the incredible mecha spot

The commercial created by Taco Bell is incredible, perfectly animated and tells the story of the Fry Force, a team of brightly colored mechas and their pilots, who defend the Earth from a race of kaiju (monsters) who have come to the planet to steal our stash of fries.

The video begins with a few bathers trying to enjoy their nacho fries. Taco Bell, suddenly interrupted by a monster emerging from the ocean.

The protagonist of the commercial, Rei, swears revenge on the kaiju after they kidnap her brother, Kosuke, during a battle. The brother is now working for the kaiju and helps them in their goal of capturing all of the Mexican spices and dips for nacho cheese dipping on the planet. Faced with an impossible decision, Rei has to choose between saving her brother or saving the Nacho Fries.

You can watch the commercial below:

This video instead contains information on the Nacho Fries:

As for the voices of the two protagonists of the commercial, they are Steve Blum, who plays Spike Spiegel in the English dub of Cowboy Bebop, while Rei is voiced by the virtual YouTuber Gawr Gura.

Of course the netizens liked the video very much and commented:

"This animation is too good to be just a French fries commercial."

"It's really frustrating that I can't look at it as a legitimate series."

“I have already read the manga. I don't want to spoil much but in the s2 they will bring back… the chihuahua ”.

"Make an anime on Netflix, cowards."

"I live in a timeline where a shark girl vtuber is an easter egg for a Taco Bell comercial mecha anime for fries."

And what do you think?
