John Carpenter wants to make more films about Jena Plissken

1997: Escape from New York and John Carpenter's Escape from Los Angeles are two of the director's funniest and most celebrated films, but one of the elements that make these films so unforgettable is Kurt Russell's character, Jena Plissken (in the original films she is nicknamed Snake). Recently the director, during an interview for Total Film / Games Radar, spoke about Plissken explaining that in the future there could be room for a third and perhaps even a fourth story.

The words by John Carpenter about Jena Plissken

Viewers thought they'd seen all of this character back in 1996, but according to Carpenter, there are at least two more stories to tell. These are the words of him during the aforementioned interview:

“[Jena Plissken] He is a character that Kurt is particularly fond of. He convinced me to do the sequel. There is probably a third or maybe even a fourth story about Snake. I don't know if we'll ever make it, but I think he deserves it. "

Recently, however, Kurt's son, Wyatt Russel, who entered the trend in the world of film and television for his role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, had declared himself reluctant about a possible revival of the Escape saga.

These were his words:

“Even if he is very kind, it will not happen. There will be no reboot of Escape from New York on my part, it's like professional suicide, it's a thing not to do. I don't know if anyone else could play Jena Plissken. Good luck, I sincerely wish you the best. I just don't know how that's possible. As for me, if I wanted to get hateful messages from people, I think I would have pushed to play the role that was my father. But I'll never do anything like that “.

With such harsh words, will it be difficult for Carpenter to move the project forward? However, Kurt Russell is not only famous for his role as Plissken. Indeed, his best performance was in Carpenter's The Thing, which proved to be a stepping stone for both the director and the actor. Fans of the horror genre, however, have now been waiting for about three years for the release of David Gordon Green's Halloween Kills, the 2018 Halloween sequel, which is in turn a sequel to John's original 1978 film of the same name. Carpenter.

It is currently quite certain that Halloween Kills will hit theaters on October 15th and will also star Jamie Lee Curtis, Nick Castle, Anthony Michael Hall and Judy Greer. We just have to wait for further news regarding, instead, a possible sequel to the saga with Jena Plissken. In the meantime, you could recover the much appreciated 1997: Escape from New York on Amazon in a Blu-Ray collector's version.
