God of War: Brilliant graphics even after 3 years - picture gallery

I really don't mean to say God of War (2018) is bad in any way. It never was! God of War was a bold move for the series, a swan song for the unbridled bombast slaughter of its predecessors, towards a more personal, calmer gaming experience that was knitted around a complicated father-son relationship. Exploration, serious conversations, spectacular panoramas that invite you to linger - with the last God of War, the developers shifted down a few gears. The action was more finely dosed than in the predecessors, it was trickier, more tactical, more grippy - and by no means as lurid and over-the-top as we knew it from Kratos' earlier excesses. This God of War was not only a nifty sequel with a bearded god of war in the lead role, it was also a (overdue) reboot at the same time.

Source: PC Games And yet there were a few things that I didn't really like about playing at the time. At times, the pace seemed a bit too slow, especially when exploring or doing frequent backtracking. I didn't find the search for secrets here as motivating as I had imagined - which may have something to do with the big hub world that I can only explore by boat. I'm sorry, but most of the time I just hate boats in video games (I call it "Skellige Syndrome"). For my taste, the balance was not always completely round. But what bothered me the most was the "endgame content": Niflheim felt to me from the first moment like a foreign body in the game, like a DLC that I would never have bought privately. Trudging through Gilft Nebula and farming echoes? No thanks. (Of course I did it all anyway, wanted to unlock the good armor and all that. But I didn't enjoy it.)

Fantastic graphics: God of War in retrospect on 67 pictures

The bottom line is that I still enjoyed God of War very much! This is also due to its impressive staging. I recently scoured my screenshot archive again and found my material from God of War. I took the shots with the photo mode on a normal (abnormally loud) PS4. Do you fancy some pleasant memories and spectacular graphics? Then I invite you to my picture gallery!
