An Italian company will build the first high-speed railway in the United States

Webuild has signed a $ 16 billion mega-project for a 379-kilometer railroad that will connect Dallas and Houston in 90 minutes

The Texas high-speed train will have a Japanese model (Webuild photo) In the States United have already dubbed it "bullet train". The convoy based on a Japanese model that will travel between Houston and Dallas at 320 kilometers per hour will whiz on tracks and viaducts with an Italian accent. The Webuild group and its US subsidiary Lane Construction have signed a $ 16 billion contract with Texas Central Lcc to design and build the 379-kilometer track that will link the two Texan cities in 90 minutes for a users of about 100,000 commuters every week who currently use a car or plane. It will be the first high-speed line for public transport in the country and will make it possible to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by 101 thousand tons.

The signing of the contract came after four years of work and studies carried out by Webuild and provides for the construction of civil engineering works, the system of tracks, viaducts, buildings and services for maintenance, for the train depot and for the storage of materials. Much of the route will consist of elevated viaducts, aiming to reduce the impact for landowners and residents of the towns crossed by the line as much as possible. The construction of the line will lead to the creation of 17 thousand direct and over 20 thousand indirect jobs, materials will be used for an estimated value of contracts of 7.3 billion dollars from suppliers in 37 American states, together with contracts for the Italian supply chain specialized in sector.

The Italian companies working with Webuild will integrate Lane's American supply chain on the project, including Italferr (Ferrovie dello Stato group), which will oversee the design for Webuild. The project involves the construction of factories for products to be used for the construction of the railway line, also with Italian technology specialized in some high-speed processing. The train will instead be designed on the example of the Central Japan Railway's Tokaido Shinkansen.

Webuild and Lane are now waiting for the financial closing in the coming months to start the works, bringing their experience in projects such as lines 4 and 5 of the subway in Milan, Grand Paris Express, Cityringen of Copenhagen and more works in Sydney, Doha and Riyadh. In Italy Webuild is currently involved in 18 infrastructure projects, involving a supply chain of 7 thousand companies.
