Will the Guardians of the Galaxy Holidays Special be the finale of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has proved to be the most complex of the entire franchise to date. Forced to reinvent, in a certain sense, the world of Marvel superheroes at the cinema, this interlude of the MCU was characterized by a greater commitment on the serial level (WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel , She-Hulk) and a smaller presence at the cinema (Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Black Widow, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder). The recent announcements at San Diego Comic-Con have certainly focused the curiosity of fans on the future of the franchise, marking the end of this phase with the release of Wakanda Forever. Yet, in these hours James Gunn has identified The Guardians of the Galaxy Holidays Special as the finale of Phase Four.

For James Gunn, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holidays Special will be the end of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Don't think that the director wanted to stand up against Marvel Studios, but his idea that it is The Guardians of the Galaxy Holidays Special at the finale of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe emerged during an exchange of tweets on Gunn's account. If Wakanda Forever is the end of this chapter of the franchise, at least as stated by Marvel Studios, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will be the beginning of Phase Five, it is legitimate to wonder how this Christmas special can be placed in the middle becoming the Final chapter of Phase Four.

According to Gunn, therefore, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holidays Special will be the end of Phase Four. No explanation, of course, but such a statement can only intrigue, considering that we want to present a special of about forty minutes as the end of a phase of the Marvel Cineamtic Universe, a role previously entrusted to films of a certain thickness. Adding further strength to this statement from Gunn is the confirmation that the recent appearance of the down-and-out superhero lineup led by Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) in Thor: Love and Thunder has in no way influenced the Christmas special or the anticipated final chapter of the game. saga of the gang, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, as confirmed by Gunn himself:

“I wrote the screenplay for Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 without even thinking that the Guardians would be taking part in Thor: Love and Thunder, so it didn't have any influence ”
