Intel Introduces New Blockscale Technology

Intel has announced details of the new Intel Blockscale ASIC, based on years of research and development. Application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) will provide users with energy-efficient hashing for proof-of-work consensus networks.

“The focus on blockchain as a function enabler continues to grow distributed and decentralized computing solutions that pave the way for new business models ".

" To support this new computing era, Intel provides solutions that offer an optimal balance between hashing throughput and efficiency regardless of the customer's operating environment ".

" Intel's decades of research and development in cryptography, hashing techniques and ultra-low voltage circuits make it possible for blockchain applications to scale their computing power without compromising sustainability, ”said Balaji Kanigicherla, vice president and general manager of Intel's Custom Compute, Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group.

This growing demand for computing power, however, requires an enormous amount of energy. Therefore, new technologies are needed that can provide the required computing power with greater energy efficiency and greater durability of the components in order to mitigate the production of WEEEE waste.

Given the nature of the silicon behind this technology, Intel will be able to deliver it en masse without compromising the CPU and GPU supply. "Intel is committed to advancing blockchain technology responsibly and we are proud to partner and deliver solutions to companies that are creating a more sustainable global cryptocurrency ecosystem."

"Intel Blockscale ASIC will play a pivotal role in helping bitcoin companies achieve their sustainability and hash rate scalability goals in the years to come, ”said Jose Rios, general manager, Blockchain and Business Solutions, Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group at Intel.

The core functionality of Intel Blockscale ASIC includes a dedicated ASIC processor for Secure Hash Algorithm-256 (SHA-256). Hash rate up to 580 GH / s in operation and up to 26 J / TH in energy efficiency.

Intel Blockscale ASIC deliveries to customers will start in the third quarter of 2022. Argo Blockchain, Block, Inc., Hive Blockchain Technologies and GRIID Infrastructure will be among the first companies to develop new systems based on Intel's ASIC.
