Nintendo sold an e-Reader card for an impressive amount

It is still a Nintendo object that has won the title of record price for sale at auction. We are obviously talking about retrogaming and despite being far from the copies of Zelda and Super Mario sold for really impressive figures, even today's case deserves to be treated for its particularity. This time in fact on eBay it was not a game that became the protagonist but an accessory, which could fall into the “Memorabilia” category of video games. We are talking about a Kirby card, to be used with the Game Boy Advance e-Reader, sold for 10,000 Dollars.

Nintendo Kirby For those who are too young to remember not only the e-Reader but also the period of the Game Boy Advance, we give you a small summary. In the years in which the GBA (acronym with which the third iteration of the Kyoto brand of portable consoles was known) had conquered the whole globe, Nintendo decided to launch this card reader on the market as an accessory. Each card could unlock bonuses, mini games, or other little extras. Although it is a more or less common object, as well as the actual cards, this one by Kirby has a peculiarity that has allowed it to reach the impressive figure at which it was sold: it is in fact an object that it was possible to recover only at E3 2002.

During the Los Angeles fair, Nintendo distributed over 100 cards directly on the show floor, each with variants: runner up, second place and first place. Using the e-Reader, you could actually find out which type of card the lucky person had come into possession of and which prize could be won. Provided, of course, to return it to the house in Kyoto. A curious fact is that at the time only 10 cards were produced for the First Prize type and therefore, after 19 years, this Kirby card not only was never returned but probably never even "swiped" on the e-Reader.

At the moment the lucky winner of the auction has not yet revealed itself. The battle to bring it home was however very hard, with about 15 collectors literally waging war on each other, for a total of 40 episodes and a final price of 10,600 Dollars. Our hope is that the user who is the winner will be able to receive this sort of mini grail of video games quickly, in order to be able to add an important piece to his personal collection.

Kirby has recently returned to Nintendo as well. Switch, with a game available on Amazon at this address.
