The Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell fleet of trucks has reached the milestone of over one million kilometers traveled in Switzerland. The Korean carmaker also aims to grow its fleet of hydrogen trucks to 1,600 units by 2025.

The current fleet of 46 hydrogen trucks therefore reaches a major milestone serving as many as 25 Swiss companies that have chosen to replace traditional diesel-powered trucks with green vehicles.

Swiss transport and logistics companies are convinced that hydrogen commercial vehicles have the greatest potential of the various alternative power sources. The member companies do not stop at the simple introduction of fuel cell trucks, they have high expectations of hydrogen as an energy source with great potential for the future, and they believe that hydrogen will be the key to the transition to energy. clean, said Jörg Ackermann, President of the H2 Mobility Switzerland Association.

The new generation of the XCIENT Fuel Cell stands out for its new design characterized by a front grille and updates that inevitably optimize performance. Xcient Fuel Cell 2021 is equipped with a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell system with two stacks of 90 kW fuel cells each. However, the fuel cell system powers a 470 hp electric motor with a maximum torque of 2,237 Nm. To optimize efficiency, the presence of seven tanks offering a combined storage capacity of approximately 31 kg of hydrogen, while three 72 kWh high voltage batteries provide an additional source of energy for a maximum range of approximately 400 km. .

It is no coincidence that the fleet of XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks has led to a reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 631 tons by exceeding one million kilometers traveled in just 11 months of service. The zero-emission vehicles of the car manufacturer Hyundai inevitably represent a big step towards an entire fleet of completely green vehicles. 140 units will be delivered to Switzerland by the end of this year to further boost a real shift towards sustainable transportation.

Hyundai leverages more than 20 years of experience in a cell technology fuel to further his vision of an eco-friendly hydrogen society. With Xcient Fuel Cell 2021, Hyundai will contribute to the widespread adoption of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, said Hyundai Motor Company's President Commercial Vehicle Division.
