Vivo X Fold+ and iQOO 10 Pro hands-on

A few days ago the MobileLabs editorial staff had the opportunity to touch a latest generation foldable and a top of the range with record top-up: we are talking respectively of the new Vivo X Fold+ and iQOO 10 Pro, two devices reserved for the oriental market "passing through" to the Italian headquarters of the brand.

What has the time spent with these "beautiful and impossible" smartphones revealed to us? What scenarios are looming for 2023 and what are Vivo's trump cards that will soon be able to land in the West as well? Let's find out together.

Vivo X Fold+, the foldable without compromise

The end of 2022 brings a refresh to the first folding smartphone from Vivo: the new X Fold+ the lines of its predecessor, but integrates a new SoC, an enlarged battery and even more amazing screens.

Both AMOLED screens of the Vivo X Fold feature a 120Hz refresh rate, for a smoother user experience than ever.

The 6.53-inch front display is already fully satisfactory for carrying out operations rapid, but at the opening of the cerni vertical era turns out to be the real trump card of Vivo X Fold+: the 8.03-inch folding display with 2160 x 1916 resolution and Schlott protective glass.

The thickness of the bezels, still undeniably important, and the presence of a front camera with pin-hole are the only elements that threaten to interrupt what is otherwise an immersive and engaging experience, thanks also to new features designed for productivity , such as Speaker Mode.

The true top-of-the-range specifications of the new Vivo X Fold+ continue under the hood thanks to the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, with a 4nm production process, which Vivo has added an integrated proprietary mobile security chip.

The new chip improves the performance and optimizes the energy consumption of the smartphone: together with the new 4730mAh cell battery, the device can boast an overall battery life of more than 20 % compared to its predecessor.

Vivo X Fold+ supports 80W Vivo FlashCharge ultra-fast charging and up to 50W wireless charging. If you choose cable charging, therefore, you will be able to fully charge the device in just 35 minutes.

The picture of the new Vivo X Fold+ is completed by a photographic compartment also from a flagship, co-engineered with ZEISS. The lenses retain the ZEISS T* coating to optimize light yield and color fidelity, while minimizing reflections, while starting with this model we can find a four-sensor setup, including:

Main sensor with OIS, 50MP Periscope Camera with 5x optical and 60x digital zoom and OIS, 8MP Ultra-wide Camera with 104° field of view, 48MP Portrait Camera, 12MP

iQOO 10 Pro, 0 to 100 in record time!

iQOO 10 Pro summarizes the progress made by the Vivo sub-brand in a high-end device with premium finishes, equipped with a record-breaking battery in all respects: it is in fact the first smartphone on the market equipped with fast charging from a good 200W with a gallium nitride charger, which guarantees a full charge in just 10 minutes.

Two years after the entry on the market of iQOO 5 Pro, with its 120W charge, Vivo further raises the innovation bar by equipping the new vo iQOO 10 Pro of several new features that further optimize the battery: among others, a three-way charging, a new protection circuit, a new heat-conducting gel and a new battery life estimation algorithm.

The new iQOO 10 Pro, which boasts the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and LPDDR5 memory upgraded to UFS 3.1, is a smartphone designed for gaming and high performance. The 14 integrated temperature sensors, together with the aeronautical aluminum frame, help to make even the most demanding gaming sessions comfortable, avoiding overheating.

An impressive AMOLED display cannot be missing on board the iQOO 10 Pro 6.78-inch LTPO with 120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz maximum sampling rate and XDR photo display technology for the best possible rendering of every detail.

The sector photographic image of iQOO 10 Pro, enclosed in the large island on the back of the smartphone, includes a 50MP Samsung GN5 main sensor with Gimbal stabilization, a fisheye wide-angle sensor with a 150° field of view and a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, OIS and mode portrait.

For the new iQOO 10 Pro vivo has entered into a partnership with BMW Motorsport: the body of the smartphone, which has a leather-effect texture that is very pleasant to the touch, recalls the livery of the sports cars in both colors.

Between East and West

Trying the new Vivo X Fold+ and iQOO 10 Pro in person, both intended to be marketed only on the Asian market, provided valuable insights into trends and innovations in the world of smartphones outside the Western context.

The partnerships with ZEISS and BMW Motorsport are an important sign of cooperation between East and West: more and more brands and maisons, even not strictly related to telephony, in fact they decide to bet on Asian manufacturers, meeting market needs related to prestige as well as the intrinsic functionality of the devices.

Both devices arrived in Milan equipped of the Android 12 operating system with OceanOS skin, the Vivo user interface designed specifically for the oriental market.

Distinguished by organic lines and bright colors, OceanOS is very different ris chest to the FuntouchOS that we find on board the Vivo devices marketed in Italy, such as the Vivo V23 5G tested a few months ago.

In any case, we were able to see first-hand how innovation in telephony passes from all the players on the market: Vivo X Fold+ brings on board a foldable almost every self-respecting top-of-the-range feature and is in direct competition with Samsung's Z Fold series, while iQOO 10 Pro pushes the charging speed of a smartphone to the limits with cutting-edge materials and technologies.
