Xiaomi smartphone | The best of 2022

Xiaomi has now literally invaded the Italian market. The Chinese company, which officially landed in our country in May 2018, has gradually managed to gnaw market share to the detriment of the various Samsung, Huawei and Apple. The strength of the Beijing giant has always been to focus heavily on the quality / price ratio, supported by the large community behind it. A line also implemented in Europe, which is inevitably paying off.

The strategy of the quality / price ratio, however, has been coupled with a real saturation operated by Xiaomi in certain market segments. In fact, especially in recent months, the Chinese company has marketed a myriad of smartphones, many of which can be overlapped with each other both in terms of technical characteristics and cost. In short, at present, the company founded by Lei Jun presents a decidedly vast product catalog, which includes the smartphones of its independent brands (Redmi, Black Shark and POCO) making it even more difficult to make a choice.

The best Xiaomi smartphones of April 2022

In this guide, which we will update periodically based on new releases, we will try to give you some more criteria to help you choose the best smartphone according to your needs. We have identified 7 Xiaomi for each of the most "common" needs of the "common" user (best battery phone, best gaming smartphone, the cheapest, the least economical [top of the range] etc.), thus managing to understand almost the whole offer of the Chinese company.

The cheapest The king of the mid-range The best for value for money The best for gaming The best (without compromise) The top battery phone The most compact top

Redmi 10 - The cheapest

With a list price of 169.90 euros, Redmi 10 represents the most convenient option for those who want to buy a Xiaomi smartphone. This low-end model has Level Up as its motto! , as if to indicate that the "level" and the claims of this smartphone are higher than those of other devices in the same segment.

The first strength of Redmi 10 is represented by the camera with AI, a set of four lenses of 50MP (main) + 8MP (ultra wide angle) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth), the ideal equipment for perfect photos in all scenarios.

The refresh rate of the display is quite high (90Hz) and allows you to enjoy a smoother visual experience when playing games or simply scrolling the screen. Usually, Adaptive Sync technology is only available in high-end phones, and it is with some surprise that we find it on this Redmi.

The processor is an octa-core MediaTek Helio G88, developed for the purpose to provide a world-class user experience for even the cheapest phones. The 5000mAh battery supports fast charging at 18W. There is no shortage of the lateral fingerprint sensor, the IR Blaster for remote control of home devices, the NFC and above all the headphone jack, an element practically unavailable on new generation smartphones.

Speaking of design, Redmi 10 is thin and light with its 8.92mm thickness and 17g weight. The colors are bright and elegant, to be chosen between two opaque shades - Carbon Gray and Pebble White - in addition to the lively Sea Blue.

Redmi Note 11 Pro - The king of the mid-range

The devices of the Redmi Note series are what Xiaomi itself identifies as the “kings” of the mid-range. Redmi Note 11 Pro, specifically, costs just under € 300.00 and stands out among others for its 108MP super camera, refresh rate up to 120Hz, 6.67 ″ Full HD + AMOLED display and 67W turbo charging. All top-of-the-range specifications, were it not for the mid-range processor: MediaTek Helio G96.

The photographs taken with Redmi Note 11 Pro are extraordinary, thanks to the 1 / 1.52 ″ main sensor with Dual Native ISO and 9-in-1 binning technology capable of capturing 108 million details per shot. The module is completed by an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera (FOV 118 °), a 2MP macro and a fourth depth lens of 2MP.

As before, the battery is 5000mAh and supports fast charging at 67W. The LiquidCool cooling system and high touch sampling rate (360Hz) make it a great choice for even the most avid gamer.

The design is sleek and trendy, with flat, thick edges only 8.12 mm.

POCO F3 5G - The best for value for money

POCO F3 5G is a top of the range offered at the price of a mid-range. As we know, what determines the quality (and therefore the price) of any smartphone is essentially its SoC, in this case a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 that needs no introduction. Sure, the SD870 is a bit old, but the signs of aging are hardly noticeable.

All the other features are flagship: AMOLED screen with refresh rate up to 120Hz and touch sampling rate up to 360Hz, dual Dolby Atmos, 5G and Wi-Fi 6 speakers, LiquidCool Technology 1.0 Plus for immediate cooling and 20MP front camera.

The slim body hides a not very large 4520mAh battery, the only true weakness of this smartphone. On the other hand, there is support for 33W fast charging.

Three lenses installed on the back, one (main) of 48MP, the second (ultra wide angle) of 8MP (FOV 119 °) and the third (telemacro) ) from 5MP. The three cameras correspond to as many microphones capable of detecting the surrounding sound at 360 °.

Another exclusive feature of the POCO F3 5G is the three-dimensional vibration, a clear and realistic tactile feedback comparable to that of professional handhelds.

Black Shark 4 Pro - The best for gaming

Black Shark 4 Pro is one of the most sober of gaming smartphones, but it certainly has something more than a traditional smartphone. And not only from the point of view of design: this device, in fact, can count on a sampling rate of the touch up to 720Hz and on a Fast Charge more "fast" than ever, from 120W, which allows you to fully recharge the battery at 4500mAh dual cell in record time of 15 minutes.

The display refresh rate - a 6.67 ″ AMOLED - is selectable between 60, 90 and 144Hz.

The Snapdragon SoC 888 is good but a bit backward, as Black Shark 4 Pro arrived in Italy with a certain delay.

On the right side we find additional pop-up buttons that work as shortcuts to the outside the game scenarios.

Xiaomi 12 Pro - The best (without compromise)

We continue our review by presenting the absolute top of the range "From Xiaomi, Xiaomi 12 Pro, a gem from € 1,099.90 with three 50MP professional cameras, WQHD + dynamic display at 120H z and - hold on tight - the latest SoC produced by Snapdragon, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

"120" is also the key number for HyperCharge, which allows you to recharge the 4600mAh battery to 100% in less than 20 minutes (18, to be precise).

The display also offers the ultimate in clarity and readability, with a resolution of 3200 x 1400 pixels at 522PPI and a peak brightness of 1500 nits.

The camera system includes three 50MP “cinema” sensors each of wide, ultra-wide and telephoto types. The front camera, on the other hand, is 32MP.

The surface of the smartphone, matte and smooth to the touch, is coated on the front with “premium” Gorilla Glass Victus.

Redmi Note 10 Pro - The top battery phone

Redmi Note 10 Pro is the most suitable Xiaomi smartphone for those who spend most of their days away from home. The high-capacity 5020mAh battery guarantees up to two days of autonomy with normal use. And a premium battery deserves a premium charging system, Mi Turbo Charge at 33W, to reach 59% in just 30 minutes.

The display is a 120Hz AMOLED drilled in the center to make room for the front camera. 16MP, a constant on Xiaomi smartphones (almost all). What changes is the rear module, an array of four 108MP (wide angle) + 8MP (ultra wide angle) + 5MP (telemacro) + 2MP (depth) lenses.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G SoC, worthy of a mid-range, it comes with 8GB of RAM + 128GB of storage.

Three color options are available: Glacier Blue, Onyx Gray and the brand new Gradient Bronze.

Xiaomi 12 / 12X - The most compact top

Xiaomi 12 and 12X are two brothers identical in size (152.7mm x 69.9mm x 8.16mm), but not for "internal" characteristics. The main difference is made by the processor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on Xiaomi 12 and Snapdragon 870 on Xiaomi 12X.

Compared to the "base" 12, the 12X also loses wireless charging at 50W and reverse charging at 10W . Furthermore, those who buy the 12X now must take into account that the software is not exactly up to date (Xiaomi 12X comes with Android 11 on board).

Putting these differences aside, Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12X are both devices to consider if you are looking for a particularly handy smartphone. The 6.28 ″ curved screen on the sides favors a firm grip, along with the rounded edges that make it even more comfortable to hold.

The cameras are 50MP + 13MP + 5MP, but it's the audio sector to reserve more surprises (the two stereo speakers are signed Harman Kardon).

As for the visual experience, it must be said that Xiaomi 12 / 12X does not have a very wide screen (it is one of the things that you have to give up when compactness is the priority), but its definition and fluidity are not inferior to those of the Pro model. And if your new super-compact smartphone falls, don't worry: the display is coated by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus cover, another element shared between the “Pro” version and the “non Pro” variants.
